In order to compete in any official club, regional, state or national cycling event, you must have a licence (or temporary one) issued by our national governing body - the Australian Cycling Federation (ACF) often referred to as Cycling Australia (CA). Application for such a licence can only be made through an affiliated club and Club Membership and membership options are tightly coupled to the ACF licence structure.
On paying your fees, you will be issued with an official "licence" (a plastic card the size of a credit card) by Cycling Australia and this licence must be carried with you to all races and training sessions and presented as proof of membership and hence insurance coverage.
For those wanting to try before becoming a member and obtaining a full race licence some temporary race permits are available.
Cycling Australia now also offer a participation licence which is substantially cheaper than a full racing licence. The Full Cycle RideIt licence (pdf slideshow of brochure) can be selected on taking out club membership and will provide insurance coverage and allow such members to participate in all club training activities.
Both Club Membership and the ACF licence is based on a calendar year: from 1 Jan through to 31 Dec.
For those joining midway through the year, the ACF offer a six month licence after the 1st July and the club passes this option on to members.
For those joining toward the end of the calendar year, the FOLLOWING year licence (and again club memebership) is made available from early Oct. This will enable you to race the remainder of the current year and the full coming year.
The membership fees are made up of several components of which a component is retained by the club.
Our renewal instructions contains a table of fees (yet to be updated with the Full Cycle licence details). Further detail on CycleSport Victoria's fees is available from their web site.
