Thursday Evening Criteriums & Roster

Blackburn is running a weekly criterium at METEC every Thursday evening. This is the first season Blackburn has offered regular criterium racing so please come out and support the races!

David de Gama is running the races as Race Director but will need several assistants. To ensure that each event is adequately staffed we will be drawing up a roster. We are calling on members to volunteer and give us their preferred evenings on which they can assist. If you are able to get there by 5:00PM to assist PLEASE let us know as we want to get the roster drawn up by Monday, 10th Nov.

JUNIORS5:30 - 5:5510 Lap Handicap
SENIORS C6:00 - 6:4540 MIN + 3 LAPS
SENIORS D6:05 - 6:4030 MIN + 3 LAPS
SENIORS A6:45 - 7:5060 MIN + 3 LAPS
SENIORS B6:50 - 7:4550 MIN + 3 LAPS

Until numbers are such that we can run scratch races for the juniors we will be running a handicap for the juniors (J17, J15, J13 and J11). Handicaps will be posted on the club's web site.

Please also see the Junior Grading Policy.

NO METEC CRITERIUM - THU 20 NOV
Due to a slight glitch in the booking system for METEC, there will be no Thursday crit on the 20 Nov 2003.

Roster for Staffing our Track Meets

In the past our track racing has been run by a number of committed individuals however on days when they have not been available we have struggled to run the races. This season we will be establishing a roster to ensure that we have the necessary volunteers at each race meet. We ask you please to review the calendar and submit to us by Friday 14th Nov the event(s) you can assist us with.

Junior Grading Policy

It is the Club's policy to run specific races for juniors and that all juniors (J17, J15, J13 and J11) competing at an event will race in those junior races.

When the number of junior entries is low, it will be up to the discretion of the Chief Commissaire at the race as to whether the junior race will be held. If it is not, the juniors may be invited to race in the next higher category (i.e. with the seniors).

This policy applies to all disciplines: track, criterium and road.

For track and criterium races, if a junior competes in all the listed junior events at the event, they may request to also enter and compete in the graded senior races for their development and training. There will be no further entry cost but they will not be eligible for prizemoney. Permission to compete with the seniors will be given by the commissaire at the event should he/she consider that the junior has adequate skills and strength to compete.

Should a junior take out a place, no prizemoney will be paid for that place (neither to the junior nor any senior).

Policy for awarding places in competitions

In our last E-Newsletter, we mentioned that our policy on awarding places was under review. Following much discussion and input from members, the executive passed changes to the policy which in future will see awards going to the first three finishers regardless of the number of entries. For details please see the new version of our Club Championship Competition Rules.

Please note that the awards to be presented at the coming Presentation Night are based on the policy as it was for those events (see the old policy).
