Documentary Filmmaker Nickolas Bird, whose work has included documentary films for the ABC, said the film shows that kids can have fun, train hard and enjoy the many challenges that cycling has to offer. The film has two quality options on Youtube and Bird said he would prefer net viewers to watch Cycling: The Challenge in higher quality. The film took over a month to produce, and is presented by former World Sprint Champion John Nicholson. It also features soundbite interviews from kids who love cycling, and features footage of cyclists on the road, track and at spin sessions at Blackburn's Burwood training facility. John Nicholson said today, "that it is an ideal time to release the film, given the approaching Tour de France and Beijing Olympics which will again showcase the sport." | 12/06/08 | News Flash - 2008 Great Doherty Tour To Include All Riders! Brian Harwood, Race Director of Blackburn Cycling Club is on a mission. A mission to make a cycling Tour event appealing to rider's of all abilities. Today Blackburn announced that it will add D grade and E grade to its highly successful Great Doherty Tour scheduled for November 2008. "The course is still tough, including Death Valley and the 1:20 Time Trial at the Basin, but why shouldn't cyclists who don't have 20 hours a week for training be excluded from finishing a Tour like this. Just to complete the Doherty is an achievement in itself", said Brian. "There will still be great prizes, which the Doherty has a solid reputation for", he also said. Blackburn is expecting over 40 riders to enter each of the new grades. Riders who think they are eligible to ride these grades are urged to consider the Doherty for their November calendar. If you have any questions, you can email Blackburn Cycling Club Great Doherty Tour on doherty@bbn.org.au. John Nicholson, former world sprint champion and Blackburn Cycling Club president, believes cycling has changed a great deal recently and there are many riders who would love to ride the Doherty event but have always felt they were excluded, because there wasn't grading suitable for them. "We want the Doherty to be inclusive, this is Blackburn's mission", he said. Blackburn Cycling Club also advises to keep an eye on the web for some training tips for D and E grade riders who wish to ride the Tour, this will be on the Blackburn website soon. |

| 02/06/08 | Results from the Ararat Junior Tour- On the 31st May and 1st June, a few Blackburn Riders ventured to Ararat for the Annual Junior Tour. The event certainly gave our riders some ups and downs. (literally) In the Under M17A Gavin Sittampallam and Brent Nelson both finished in the top 5 placing in the GC- which with the standard of the field was absolutely spectacular. Unfortunately both were involved in the crash at the final sprint in the last Road Race and needed treatment for some nasty abrasions. In the M17B Grade Aaron Eynaud rode extremely well. He did a PB in the Time Trial and rode well in the bunch in the second Road race. Unfortunately a puncture 20kms in the first Road race side-lined him, but as usual Aaron kept on riding. In W15 Caitlyn Ward came up triumphant in B Grade and rode extremely well. In the words of Ian Maher, Caitlyn rode so well that she will be in A Grade for the next open. In M15 again there were some ups and downs. Alex Morgan rode a great Time Trial and secured a position in A Grade along with Mitchell Burden. Unfortunately only 10kms into the first Road Race Alex crashed and badly cut both his knees. Brad tells me that Alex was willing to jump back on the bike, but was just too injured. Unfortunately for Alex that was the end of his week end. Luke Wylie had a crash on the Turn around in the Time Trial and this cost him some valuable time that may have cost him a position in A Grade. Luke went on to finish 7th and 9th overall in both Road Races which secured him Third Place in B Grade. Mitchell Burden rode extremely well in his first Open in A Grade and enjoyed the experience. Pierce Connor in M13 rode very strongly indeed continuing from his 2nd place in the Metros. Pierce finished 6th overall, however the difference between 2nd and 7th was measured only in seconds. Well done again Pierce. All in all the Blackburn riders all performed well. It was great to see Alex Santigada from our Jets programme ride extremely well in M17B Grade. Alex finished all races and rode with great form and consistency. Well done Alex. |

The twice postponed (3 divisions) Christmas handicaps were changed due to inclement weather which again kept quite a few riders away. As only 14 riders were ready at the start time, one 3 lap handicap covering all grades was decided on, results were 1st Dale Reith, 2nd Dino Apolito, 3rd Alan Barnes. After the arrival of several more riders, and the track drying up, we then held the 2nd handicap for D/E/F which was won by Patrick Tibballs, 2nd Liam Dove and 3rd Merv Tracey. The A/B/C race was started but when rain began again it was abandoned after one lap. The rest of the days programme was cancelled. Although rain again hampered our day we made the most of it with a sausage sizzle - which helped to keep everyone warm (thanks Bev!)- Xmas carols to put us in the festive mood, and a musical treat from Jamie H and Karen. Thanks to everyone for all their help and attendance. |

| 14/05/07 | Successful First outing for the new BSS-BBN Team The new Bicycle Super Store- Blackburn Race Team had a very good day at Phillip Island on Saturday afternoon, finishing 14th in the A grade event against some of the best teams in Victoria. Considering this team has never ridden together before it was a fantastic effort. There were many positives during the race to show that the team has a bright future. This included having riders up the front all of the time and some attempts to bridge the gap to the breakaway. Stay tuned as this team builds up to become ultra competitive into the future.. |
