A great weekend of cycling results starting on Saturday at the Preston Junior Track Carnival. It was the first outing for Alex Morgan in J15M division. We have all seen Alex make his famous break away in the D Grade Scratch races on Saturday at our Club Meets. In a strong field Alex made the same break away in the scratch race and was never headed. He also came 3rd in the Elimination. In was good to see that Pierce Connor also got a third in the Elimination in the JM 13 at Preston. Pierce is a consistent performer and along with Angus Flood is often seen early on a Sunday morning clocking up the kilometers. It has been great to see the improvement in Daniel Pendelbury. Daniel has won a Criterion at Sandown in D Grade and has been promoted to C Grade. He rode on 18th March, 2008 and finished well up in the main pack. He has also performed well at Glenvale. Daniel’s performances to promote to B Grade at Blackburn Track really show his improvement is not just limited to the Road. He will be one to look out for in the Club Championships.
Then we come to the Club Teams Championships on the Track at Disc. Some great results were had. The first medal of the meeting was the LW17 Sprint. It was great to see Kym Dundas and Adele Sylvester power away for a strong win. Unfortunately Kym had a fall later in the day and was taken to hospital. Her strong cycling led her to a Gold and Silver during the day, and we all hope that she can get back on the bike really soon. The J13W team of Anna Osbourne and Emily Apolito really lit up disc with their speed and excellent riding style. The Gold Medal in the sprint was absolutely brilliant to watch. The pursuit team of Pierce, Angus and Emily performed really strongly to receive a Bronze Medal for their efforts. The JM15W Pursuit Team qualified second in a really strong qualifying heat. Krissy and Jodie Dundas as well as Caitlan Ward rode well in the final also to pick up a silver medal. The JM15 Teams had huge fields to compete against. There were 10(ten) teams in the Pursuit and our boys finished 2nd in qualifying well ahead of the next best Team. Luke Wylie and Emerson Harwood have been competing in the Open Events all Summer and knew what competition lay ahead. Jack Flood started the boys off well and along with Alex Morgan they rode extremely well as a team. The boys also rode well to win a Bronze medal out of 11 (eleven) starters in the Sprint. It is important not to under estimate the impression that Simon Quick has left with our Junior Cyclists. Simon was coaching every team with time boards and words of wisdom before each race. Simon and all the parents that attended and helped at the training sessions need to be thanked and appreciated for all their efforts. These results are not just good luck. They come from hard work, dedication and skill. Now to the JM17 Teams, two teams represented Blackburn in both the Sprint and Pursuit. In a huge field of 14 (Fourteen) our Team of Ed Osbourne, Brent Nelson and Gavin Sittampalam only just missed out on the Bronze in a tight run final. Our number 2 Teams also rode quickly in a really talented field. Well done to all riders. Unfortunately I had to leave after the Junior Teams had run so I did not witness the Senior or U 19s Teams ride at Disc on Sunday. I have read the results and it would be great to hear the details of our Elite Riders apparent dominance, (wow Elite Women’s Team Pursuit win Elite Men’s win in both the Sprint and Pursuit and as well as our Silver Medal in Elite Women’s Sprint). It was good to see a Bronze in the Masters Men Pursuit and Masters Women Sprint. It looks like our M19 team received a Silver and Bronze too. Well done to all riders. If anyone would like to add a report I would love to read it. Full results from CSV WEB site here.
Anyway to all- keep cycling and keep safe.
