The Blackburn Cycling Club was well represented at the first of the International Cycling Series at Vodafone Arena last night with Richard taking out the wheel race, and Catherine Allen winning the Women's scratch.
Blackburn had four riders make it through their heats to get into the final of the main event of the night, the men's handicap. Blackburn members Steven Martin (off 170), Andrew Steele (off 140) and Jamie Goddard (off 130), all sponsored by Le Tour Cycles, did both Le Tour and Blackburn proud. Just to get into the final of one of these State Open Handicaps is a fantastic effort!
But it was our club captain RICHARD ENGLAND (off 110) who not only got into the final, but then rode it in the style of a true champion to repeat the efforts of Barry Woods back in 1998 to hold off all challengers and take out the event! CONGRATULATIONS RICHARD!
Richard has been assured of a ride in the up-and-coming Australian Madison Championship on the 21st Dec 2002, also at Vodafone Area. This will be an action packed evening and we encourage all to front up and cheer Richard and his (as yet unknown) team-mate on.
